INSERT problems...

Hello,

I am trying to do a simple INSERT statment to a Paradox table, and am
running into a slight problem.

My SQL statement is as follows:

INSERT INTO test(firstName, lastName)
VALUES('Fred', 'Smith')

If my table is empty, this statement works perfectly; however, if my
table is not empty, I get the following error:

Error Diagnostic Information
ODBC Error Code = S1000 (General error)
[Microsoft][ODBC Paradox Driver] Operation must use an updatable query.

Is there something I'm missing here? I've done this with Microsoft
Access without a problem, but would prefer not to work with Access.

Any help would be appreciated,
Michael Sigal

Your SQL statement appears to be within acceptable parameters for SQL. Does
the same statement work when using the native Paradox driver that comes
with Visual dBASE and the BDE? If so, you might want to ask your question
of Microsoft, the apparent producer of your ODBC driver. It would appear
that there is something wrong with that ODBC driver if it does not accept
such simple, valid SQL.

Besides, why are you using an ODBC driver at all, when the BDE supplies you
with a native driver?
