After six hours at the machine and then sending previous message, I have found the cause not a solution but another problem. The data I am using is from Xbase with a simple debit, credit and paid field. The xbase files have either debit or credit empty. I used the old xbase command 'replace' on the file to set my paid fields. The 7.01 does not recognise a numeric field with a dot entry as empty as opposed to a 0.00 which it seems to do. I'm going back to lie down in the darkened room. Thanks again. I'll try and sort that one tomorrow. Derek Fawell

Set a default value of 0 if you don't want that behaviour. Same thing for logical values. Also why are you using REPLACE? Since it can be calculated at any time if credit>=debit (or the other way round depending on your system) it should be a calulated field IMO. -- Romain Strieff [TeamB] Please read this newsgroup guide below before posting on the private Inprise newsgroups. http://www.inprise.com/newsgroups/guide.html --
