Boulder can handle 50,000 football fans for around 5 hours at a time
5-6 times a year. The out of town fans drive to campus - park, go to the
game, get their cars and maybe drive around boulder for an hour or two.
This is something that has been going on for years. When they come there
are lots of signs, traffic officers and planing. Also, I have not heard
terribly many complaints about them, except being loud for a couple hours.
The promis keepers last year brought 50,000 people, with very little planning.
I didn't see the parking people around while I was on campus and everybody
was comming in. I did see some people yank a 'no parking' sign out near
28th and Colorado so they could park there on the side of the road.
The football fans don't invade the bike path to the point it is impassable for
anyone else. When the football fans come many places in university hills
are blocked off (correct me if I am wrong on this one). The football fans
don't try to picknic in other people's front, or back, yards. The football
fans don't use *my* swiming pool. The football fans don't tear down fences
around family housing, without housing's permission, to hold a bbq for
*all* 50,000. Football fans don't decide that it is their god-given right
to sit in other people's lawn furniture even when asked to move.
I have a great deal of problems with the football program, mostly political
withing the university, but the football fans are much better behaved
than PK. I lived on campus for 2 years, the last year was in Libby Hall
which is very close to the stadium. I had no problems with anybody
here for the football games. I worked on campus last year the friday
that the PKers arrived. Getting home from that was very scarry. There
is a *big* dif between the Pkers and football games.
