I am an experienced engineering manager and I seek a position as a
Director of Engineering or Program Manager responsible for high-tech
product development.

I have significant experience in advanced technology management and
product R&D. My broad technical background includes automation
technology, precision electro-mechanical and electronic control
systems, computer systems and integration. I have:

o Worked in large and small companies, start-up, and
       turn-around situations.

o Developed technical teams ranging from 3 to 40 people.

o Managed marketing for advanced technology systems.

The following highlights my achievements in evaluating, designing,
managing, and implementing advanced technologies to meet strategic
business objectives:

As _Director_of_Systems_Integration_ for an architect and engineering
firm, was recruited to manage systems integration for a new, highly
automated, retail distribution center. Construction of 1.1 million
square foot facility was well under way and in dire need of systems
engineering. Developed turn-around plan to supplement existing team
with a major North American systems integrator. Selected and managed
integration team under a $10 million contract to develop, integrate,
and test control software with major automated material handling
systems and corporate computing systems.

As _Manager_of_Manufacturing_Technology_ with a diversified natural
resources company, reported to Vice President and Director of
Technology Center. Managed $3M annual budget to apply advanced
engineering and manufacturing technologies to diverse needs of the
company's operations. Created new industrial research laboratory,
growing from staff of 2 to 23 scientists and engineers. Introduced
computer-aided engineering tools, hired and trained key people, and
developed new projects with an advanced technology thrust. One
saved $500,000/year for a commercial window manufacturer with an
integrated automation system using custom robots and material
handling equipment. Another, improved manufacturing processes and
product quality at a copper alloy sheet mill, reducing scrap by 20%
and saving $300,000/year.

As _President_ of private consulting company, helped companies
improve productivity, quality, and competitiveness through
application of advanced manufacturing technologies: audited design
automation operations and proposed more effective operating
policies and procedures; helped a U.S. multi-national develop
marketing strategy for CIM; evaluated a technology licensing
agreement and devised product development and marketing plans for
a joint venture; helped a government sponsored industrial center
select staff, develop seminars, evaluate technology systems, and
define an integrated architecture to demonstrate CIM technology.

As _Project_Manager_ with an international aerospace company,
recognized the need and created a new position to manage automation
technology across the company. Reported to Vice President of
Engineering and worked closely with operations to plan and
implement a major design automation systems project. Devised an
integrated implementation strategy; trained operators; developed
special applications and techniques; and implemented full-scale
operations in four areas. Results showed 35% savings over existing
computerized design methods.

As _Manager_of_Market_Development_, with the same international
aerospace company, was recruited to support diversification in
automated ground transit systems business. Evaluated new product
concepts; developed customer contacts; organized proposals,
presentations, and demonstrations; developed brochures; and
coordinated senior government officials in developing research and
market support; Led technology audit team evaluating a potential
acquisition target.

As _Director_of_Engineering_ with a pioneering CAD/CAM systems
supplier, was part of turn-around management team. Reported to CEO
and worked closely with manufacturing, sales, and customer service,
to increase revenues 850% to profitability in three years. Built
motivated teams in design, product quality, and R&D; completely
redesigned sophisticated product line in 16 months. New CAD/CAM
system contributed to a 175% increase in sales over a two year
period.

In other assignments, managed new product R&D, directing 30 people
with a $400,000 ($1974) annual budget;

o Recruited a top technical team to design and deliver
sophisticated computer controls for a public transit system
       demonstration in 11 months;

o Worked on a joint international design team in West Germany
developing an advanced military weapon system. Moderately
       fluent in German.

I have a Masters Degree in Instrumentation Engineering from
University of Michigan, 1963 and Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering
from GMI Engineering and Management Institute, 1961.

I'm an expert in computer systems technology, and I hold two
patents in automatic controls. An accomplished communicator, I
have presented over 20 public and private seminars and published
13 articles on advanced technology management in North American
publications. I'm a registered Professional Engineer in the
Canadian province of Ontario.

I'm a U.S. citizen currently working in Canada. I'm willing to
relocate and will consider contract work. Please contact me at
(416) 873-7079 (East Coast time zone).
