To be sure, there will always be a need for repair people of all sorts. 
There are people who cannot or do not care to fix their own computer, car,
whatever.  But the problem arises when more and more people have
absolutely no idea what is going on inside the technology that they have
come to depend on.  Sure, there are technologies that I depend on, and I
couldn't care less about.  But, when I'm flying in an airplane, for
instance, I hope for the sake of the hundreds of people on that plane that
the people who put the airplane together and repair it are not hardware
(of software) illiterate.
