RESOURCE, Electronic Design, 11/24, p. 11.
Second of two editorials  urging protection of
Bell Labs' value as a national technological
resource.  How?  Have a small public interest
committee, underwritten by a major foundation,
"closely monitor the labs' performance,"
keeping track of number of papers produced,
patents granted, size and quality of the staff.
"Should they feel that action is needed...a
major press conference would be in order.  Then
it would be essential...to see to it that all
segments of the population be informed quickly
of the need for action."
