For those of you who are new to the game and for those who have let some of
the things that attracted you to pool in the first place go by the way side:

Although this might seem like common courtesy, I highly recommend
waiting until your opponent finishes racking the balls and moves out of the
line of fire before blasting the cue ball down the table.
Yesterday I encountered a fine young chap who decided on three, yes
count them, three occasions that he was going to break as soon as I lifted
the rack away from the balls. After each rack I gave him a kind of "hold on
just one second, and let me get out of the way hand to him before you shoot"
signal. He paid no attention and finally I got about an inch away from his
face and said very politely, "If you do that one more time I'm going to
shove this fucking cue stick down your throat, you got the picture" I think
he understood very clearly after my short, but sweet lecture to him about
RESPECT. Anyway the kid was just 15 or so and I didn't lay it on too thick,
but his face turned about as white as lab mice.
To all you out there who at times forget to think about the kind of
respect anyone deserves no matter what age, especially your elders, remind
yourself that you never know if your opponent is willing to beat the living
shit out of you for what ever the reason.
Merry Christmas and Have a Happy New Year.
