There is a push to go with CFLs (compact flourescent lamps). I see no reason to look at this as a bad thing, but I do not like the light spectrum and I have another issue that keeps me from using them. I bought (many years ago, 20 years for a round number) dimmer light switches. I can set the lighting level of almost every light in my house. If I have a 60W bulb in the lamp, and set the dimmer to 20%, do I use 12W? I find that TV viewing with the lights set low is better than with them off, and far better than with them full on. I have a light over the sink that I can set to about 10% -- I think the light is a 65W Flood, it's one of those can lights -- and this gives the kitchen enough light that I don't kick the cats and I can fill a glass with water. I also have dimmers on the lights in the bathrooms, and I nearly always set these to less than full on. I live under the dilussion that I am saving energy with the dimmers set to a low level as opposed to having the lights on at full power as would happen with a standard light switch. Does a dimmer cut energy demand?
