Andrew Silva of the Press-Enterprise reported that according to a Fish and Game official, none of those tracking the mountain lion had a tranquilizer gun or the experience to use it. The biologist in charge of the study, Dr. Paul Beier, refused to criticize those who chased and shot the animal, saying "I wasn't there and I'm not going to second-guess what happened." Personaly, I can second-guess their actions. According to the report, the officers chased the animal for three hours before killing it. I find it hard to believe that there was not a tranquilizer gun within a three-hour drive of the incident. Ed Harrison <harrisone>
