One more thing. I just loved Tree Mallow (Lavatera assurgentiflora) I grew a 20 ft hedge to block us from our neighbors in La HOnda. It has a maple like leaf, pink hibiscus like flowers, and is habitat for hummingbirds and the Painted Lady butterfly larva. It can be pruned hard and allowed to grow busy. Can grow to 25 ft in two years and is really easy from seed. I can't grow it is Lake Co as it is too cold here. I think it can survive down to the 20's, but probably not 8 degrees! It is a coastal shrub. Karen
