Whole Foods in Berkeley Promoting Coors

[I already posted this but forgot to include the environment
lists. My apologies to folks who get this twice. Because
Coors has done so much damage to the environment, the Coors
boycott is currently primarily being handled by the Student
Environmental Action Coalition (SEAC).]

=o= This isn't about Whole Foods' labor problems -- if anyone
wants to get into that debate, please start up another topic
for it [but not in the environment groups]. This is addressed
to customers of Whole Foods who, like me, wish to hold them to
the high standards of environmental progressivism that they
claim to be a part of.

=o= There is a huge Coors display in the beverages section
at Whole Foods. It's their main beer promotion.

=o= Not familiar with the Coors boycott? In a nutshell, the
Coors family uses their profits for political ends: they've
funded anti-minority, anti-women, and anti-gay movements,
they've done enormous damage to the environment (not only in
their home state of Colorado -- they are ultimately the force
that brought us James Watt and Anne Gorsuch), and they also
made major contributions to Ollie North's little Iran/Contra
operation. (If you want more information, send me email.)

=o= As a consequence, lots of progressive folks are boycotting
Coors, especially in the Berkeley area. Indeed, I would not
be surprised if most of Whole Foods' customers were in on the
boycott. Indeed, you can't find a bottle or can of Coors in
the store.

=o= But hey, didn't I just say they had a huge Coors display?
Let's call it a crypto-Coors display: the Coors product being
promoted is "Killian's Irish Red."

=o= Whole Foods *knows* this is a Coors product, but they're
banking on their customers *not* knowing this is a Coors
product. I say we call them on it.

=o= Ask them why you can't buy Coors there. Then ask them why
you *can* buy Killian's there.

=o= They have a community suggestion board, of sorts. Complain
about the Killian's display. Ask them why they're promoting it
so heavily, even while they shy away from selling Coors.

=o= (Don't be surprised if they never post your comments. It's
been my experience that they simply don't reply to the harder
questions. They do reply to things like, "Hey, you guys are
all fascists!", because that gives them the opportunity to
cluck patronizingly about how sorry they are that they're only
human and can't please everyone in such a "politically correct"
town, and how they hope you have a nice day.)
