I was out shopping around last night and, as always, was absorbed
by several book stores within my local mall. Anyway, I noticed
in each of these stores a new book prominently displayed to grab
your attention : 50 simple things YOU can do to save the earth -
by The Earth-works Group. For its compact 95 or so pages, this 
more of a pamphlet than book is packed with information, and is
a quick read. I got through about half the book in two
hours - half reading, half watching T.V. Some of the facts presented
really opened my eyes, for instance : "To make plastic wrap cling,
manufacturers add 'plasticizers,' potentially harmful chemicals
that can work their way into your food." The book also suggests
alternatives to adverse ecological means, for instance : "... use
reusable sealable plastic containers instead of plastic wrap...". I'd
guess the book's greatest virtue is that it presents the information
in short, well constructed, generally page long units, that are clear
and easily (at least by me) understood. At $4.95, and printed on
recyled paper with (and get this) recycled ink, this should capture
even the most environmentally unconcernds' attention.
