A recent Question I came across on an "answers style site" Do you think by 2020, vehicles will get 50 mpg but gas will cost $6 a gallon? _____________________________________________________________ Wake up USA! vehicles are alreadt doing 50 miles to the gallon, and have been for the past 15 years. A peugeot 106 with a 1.5 litre diesel engine, (manuafctured in 1996) will return 50mpg easily, even when driving at 80mph, at lower speeds you might expect 60 - 70mpg. Which is better than a prius right? Which is why I don't understand the prius as a concept. But yes your theory sounds robust, as people use less fuel / gas, then the you will pay more. Also in the UK at present we pay approx £1.00 for 1 litre of fuel which is the same as $1.593200 for 1 litre or . . . . $7.2 per gallon. Which might explain why we have such efficent cars in the UK!! http://www.eco-label.org.uk

There are 3.785 liters to a gallon, so 1,593 X 3.785 = 6.029. Maybe when you get 60mpg and $7.20 per gallon, there's a link.
