Matt: You have now found the universal disclaimer for product liability. Everyone does this and your logic is not flawed. The US government made a modification for the US Navy to convert the M-1 rifle from 30.06 to 308 Winchester some years ago. This is a case hardened part that inserts into the chamber. The magazine well also had an insert to accomodate the shorter cartridge. However, with European standards and especially the lack of uniformity between Russian Manufacturers, would not attempt to use the chamber insert as provided at a gun show until I had a competent gunsmith look at it and test the modification with proof loads. Better safe than sorry as your face is next to 46,000 psi and is hardly worth the lesser expense given medical bills these days.
