Calif Vietnam Vet for Governor Aims High for Vets

Former Army Captain and Bronze Star winner for Meritorious Service
Gray Davis seeks to maintain unbroken chain of military veterans who
served as California's chief executive since Army Captain Ronald
Reagan occupied Governor's house. Gray's opponent, who requested and
received a student deferment from military service during the Vietnam
War, says California would be better served by a non-vet.

How does a officer in the rear with the gear win a Bronze Star? A Bronze
Star is a badge of courage and can not nor should not be given to supply
clerk Desk Jockeys.

I knew that at some time in the future this dark secret would come out. A
Bronze Star is intended to be given to people who show courage under fire.
Many officers were given the Bronze Star for nothing more than showing up
in country. Any officer that does not have a Combat Infantry Badge or
documented combat experience and uses it for political advantage is at
least disingenuous.

Gray Davis has neither a CIB or documented combat experience. His
inference of being a combat hero is wrong and insults the memory of 58,000
brothers and sisters who died in the Vietnam conflict.

I am not calling Gray Davis a phony, but if the shoe fits he must wear it.

Let's hope he did *something* more than show up in country to win the
medal. Remember Admiral Boorda.

Unbroken chain? While we've all heard the stories about
Jerry Brown being a space cadet, I don't believe he was actually
a member of any of the military's branches.

Oh, please. These are strange people indeed to be trading on
patriotism. Nobody's saying that the state would be "better served
by a non-vet", only that the state would be better served by *this*
non-vet. This is certainly an amusing turn of events; Democrats have
to search long and hard to find an under-70 veteran among their ranks.
They have *one* and now they're a bunch of flag-wavers. It's enough
to turn your stomach.

This line of reasoning didn't work for Bob Dole vs. Bill Clinton, so
why do you think it applies now?

Something tells me Jafo will have a field day with the

Being a Vietnam Vet means NOTHING. Bot McCain and Davis were GREAT in
their service to our nation, and BOTH have turned AGAINST the Constitution
when it comes to the inalienable RIGHT to own firearms.

Gruff

funny. And I found several things else where to repost too. Lighten up a bit.
