I use State Farm, which automatically provides coverage for personal
property of about 25% of the value of the insured house. Of course
you need to supply evidence that your possessions total that much. Since
I don't have earthquake insurance (too much for too little), breakable
stuff, including a valuable old Steinway, is on my "scheduled" list. If
a horrendous EQ wrecks the scheduled stuff, you get paid off without
EQ insurance. It would take a pretty big EQ to destroy a house but
possessions are more vulnerable.
