I made my initial remark about 70% of chance of rain = "rain 70% of the time" on the E. Coast with tongue in cheek. However I have appreciated the insights gained about what the % chance means. I did not know that it was derived from an historic database. I assumed, not being a meteorologist, that percentages were based on what had been going on the past 24 hours, what the satellite photos showed, etc. Here in S. Calif, our winter storms generally come from north to south, and usually fizzle out about the time they get to San Diego (evidence this past week). And I suppose it is harder to predict over-water approaches of weather than over-land ones. Still, I'm relatively under-whelmed with the "accuracy" of rainfall predictions here. I know, all it takes is money.... --Jim
