Things are a little strange up here. (Or maybe they're not; I only moved
here (from Virginia) last April.) At mass this morning the priest told us
that Sacramento was dry when he left there last night; the storm was only
over Woodland (about 20 miles west) and it was pouring buckets. The Wood-
land news people are saying we got 2 1/2 inches yesterday. When I drove to
church we had sunshine, and it was sunny when we got out 1/2 hour later,
but in the meantime we had had another shower.

I get the impression that the farmers around here are more interested in
the runoff from the Sierras: they are elated at the several feet of snow
that fell yesterday, and at the prospect of more this week.
