dave@angmar.uucp (Dave Fuess) writes: }The "deceptive practice" which Citibank is supposed to have }engaged in is neither Citibanks nor deceptive. The news }yesterday reported that mail drop boxes are being hit by }gangs looking for credit cards which have not been delivered }yet. They can steal these and use them for at least a month }before the intended customer discovers the charges. All banks }are being asked to devise an activation method to prevent this }type of theft. I have noticed that my cards now, in addition to the "good thru" date, have a "valid from" date. This, along with the previously mentioned "have you received your card yet?" letter seems like a workable solution. The banks just need to get the lead time up a little. Often I get the card only two weeks or so before the "valid from" date. --James Preston
