well, having/being from California and involved with scouting most
of my life i think his apprehension is extremely warranted. i
agree the WHOLE organization is by and large not corrupt; however,
there are many corrupt Boy Scout Officials in the organization who
use such tactics as illegal accusations, illegal hearings of a
one-sided nature, threatening of both adults and YOUTH, lying in
terms of falsification of records and such, and wholesale
violation of the rules and principles they (BSA) claim to uphold.
This is probably true in ANY volunteer organization and is
unfortunate as monies get tighter. But such actions should NEVER
be condoned nor allowed. I am willing to bet absolutley that the
Western Regional Office does aboslutely nothing. They protect
their own no matter how bad the person(s) get. They would sooner
kick out a questioning volunteer, parent, or scout first. i know
this has happened many times across the country. here alone in
the Eastern Region they process 100 reviews from similar
complaints against their own, and EVERY time uphold for the Scout
Executive or Official, never for the volunteer unless it becomes a
Nationwide news item.
the problem occurs because these corrupt people can't find a REAL
job and more so because PARENTS don't get involved but let their
kids off at meetings and that's all. we need more involved
parents and a concerned public to insure ethics isn't just
enforced on our elected officials, but equally everywhere.
Baden-Powell would turn over in his grave if he saw half of what
these people do and say in the name of scouts. That is exactly
what Mrs Lind (William Boyce's daughter) has said, i agree to some
extent. it is and has been a good program....as long as WE keep
involved and see that it stays that way.
