Sea Kings currently employed by Canada are now 37 years old. The teamwork necessary to keep these piles of junk flying must be a result of exceptional people maintaining the highest standards in their job descriptions. I am in awe of you all. "NO" to WTO, "NO to NATO, "NO" to NAFTA Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Well whoever wrote this post obviosly knows absoloutely nothing about helicopters or their maintenance. Yes they are a very old design but to call them piles of junk is absurd. They are one of the most reliable helicopters ever made. They are still in use all over the world flying passengers all over. They are also used to sling logs off the sides of mountains. Heli logging places demands on tthe airframe far in excess of any thing ever done by the canadian military. Yet these sea kings (called S-61) in the industry do so all day with maintenance performed in the evening and they are ready to fly the next day. If the ones in the military are being maintained by "exceptional people maintaining the highest standards" they would not have nearly the amount of problems the military does. If you want to see sea kings maintained to the highest standards look to the canadian heli logging industry. The machines work far harder than any military machine and are ready to go on time every morning. I think the problem with the canadian military is bad maintenance. long banmilk wrote in message <8nvcp2$3b6$1@nnrp1.deja.com>... > Sea Kings currently employed by Canada are now 37 years old. >The teamwork necessary to keep these piles of junk flying must be >a result of exceptional people maintaining the highest standards >in their job descriptions. Bad Maintenance????? I think you should check YOUR facts before running off at the mouth .... your are wrong at the quality of the tech working in Canada's Air force. You are correct at the stresses of the logging industry places on the airframe, it can be brutal for the aircraft. However how many years have the helos you are using for logging been running??? Please try to remember that the Sea Kings operate in a marine environment, and the salt induces problems of its own that I am sure you are aware of. Also every one of these birds has been in service for over 35 years now, and any aging airframe is going to require more maintenance time ... that and the fact the while the aircraft is in the shop it doesn't leave until ALL systems are back up to par. The other poster was right when he stated it takes teamwork and high maintenance standards but was wrong about them being junk ... they are just getting old .... they have done a hard job very well for a long time now and are getting ready to be retired.
