Hello!

NSTN is pleased to announce the availability of Canadian Weather Forecasts.
This information is being brought online as an experimental service, and is
an addition to our ever-expanding gopher information service. Depending on
the load this generates on our system, user feedback, and usage
information, the forecasts may become a permanent service. Previously, we
carried just the Nova Scotia forecasts as the item "Local Weather" on the
"Other Information" gopher menu.

The forecasts are fetched automatically four times a day from the
University of Michigan's "Weather Underground" service and are placed into
the NSTN gopher under the mysterious and arcane main menu heading

	"Canadian Weather Forecasts"

There are twenty forecasts in all. If there is more than one forecast per
province, the province's entry is shown as a directory; otherwise, as in
Nova Scotia's case, it's shown as a file. The weather forecasts are issued
in all-upper-case, and the fetching software does a certain amount of
translation to mixed case- with somewhat interesting results.

There are three ways to access the weather service:

1) Point your gopher at nstn.ns.ca, port 70, to see our main menu, which
   includes "Canadian Weather Forecasts".

2) If you want "Canadian Weather Forecasts" to appear on *your* gopher
   menu, get your gopher system administrator to add this entry to your
   gopher system:
        Name=Canadian Weather Forecasts
        Type=1
        Port=70
        Path=1/Canadian Weather Forecasts
        Host=nstn.ns.ca

3) If you're one of the unfortunate few who don't have access to a gopher
   client yet, you can use the NSTN public gopher. From a VT100-emulating
   telnet, telnet to "nstn.ns.ca" and log in as "fred".

Enjoy! I'd like to hear your comments about the service.
