It may "look" different to some folks, but yes, everyone will see this
type of behaviour.  What they see, exactly, is dependant on the specific
news server they're using, but all news servers "expire" articles after
a period of time.  That is, in order to make space for new articles, old
articles are removed from the message spools.

Does that explain what you're seeing?

Check with your mail administrator.  They may have added strong spam
filtering, and if it's affecting your ability to receive mail you
consider legitimate, they'll very likely be able to configure things a
little differently to accomodate you.

You might find that Cleanfeed is an excellent way to improve that
signal-to-noise ratio ...  :-)
