I recently had to fork out almost $600 to replace a transmission controller module which from what I understand was working fine from a hardware point of view but had a software bug and the read-only memory (PROM) could not be reprogrammed. The switchover to programmable modules started around 1993 so vehicles bought after that time can probably be fixed for very little cost. The transmission in question involves the 4-speed automatic installed on Plymouth Voyageurs, Eagle Vision, and possibly others. Does anyone have more information on this problem such as when was it discovered and which model years are affected? Are there thousands of vehicles out there whose owners will have to shell out $600 to fix this software bug? Shouldn't Chrysler provide a rebate to customers whose controllers aren't software upgradeable? -- -Pat bn207@freenet.carleton.ca
