MONARCHIST LEAGUE STUDY ON COST OF CANADIAN MONARCHY: 74 cents PER CANADIAN PER YEAR ~ GG'S EXPENSES DOWN 21% IN DECADE The Monarchist League of Canada has released a major study, the first of its kind, a comprehensive survey of the cost of the Canadian Monarchy. "Most Canadians are unaware of the cost of the Crown,"says the League's Dominion Chairman John Aimers. "The facts in this report reveal what a great bargain the Monarchy is when for 74 cents each Canadian enjoys the stability, dignity and independence it provides our country." The complete text (app 5400 words) of the study appears on the League's website at the following location: http://www.monarchist.ca/archives/costs.htm A summary (app 1000 words) is available on request to John Aimers either electronically (john.aimers@sympatico.ca) or by telephone (416) 975-2608. The study was co-authored by Aimers and by League researcher Sean Palmer, a 4th year student at Toronto's York University, and will be printed in the Fall issue of CANADIAN MONARCHIST NEWS, the League's quarterly periodical. Permission granted to reprint or excerpt from the study provided credit is given to The Monarchist League of Canada/Canadian Monarchist News. Highlights: * The Dominion's tax payers do not pay a penny to assist in meeting the routine expenses of their Queen. * Expenditures for the Governor General's activities total $11,660,000. * In real terms, the expenditures of the office of Governor General have actually decreased by 21.7% over the last decade * the federal government budgets $1,948,100 to cover its obligations to the Lieutenant Governors for 1999-2000 * 1998-99 figures reveal that Provincial expenditures for Lieutenant Governors total $5,015,648 * Visits by members of the Royal Family are increasingly deemed "private." The federal government budgets only $450,000 annually for royal homecomings * Total expenditure on the monarchy in 1998-99, $22,415,222; divided by StatsCan's population figure, 30,301,200, this reveals an annual cost of 74 cents per Canadian per annum. -- John Aimers, Dominion Chairman The Monarchist League of Canada Mailto:john.aimers@sympatico.ca CLICK WEBSITE BELOW FOR FREE TRIAL MEMBERSHIP OFFER & MORE INFORMATION GOD SAVE THE QUEEN ! http://www.monarchist.ca
