Canadian Cancer Research Group: International Research, Counselling, Advocacy & Referral The Group: The Canadian Cancer Research Group was founded in 1993. The Group was formed in response to the growing demand, amongst consumers for cancer treatment that combines and crosses traditional and non-traditional modalities. The purpose of the group is to provide support to cancer patients, oncologists, and hospitals throughout diagnosis, treatment and recovery. The support the group provides includes; research, counselling, advocacy and referral. Research: Research consists of conducting international patient specific computerized and library searches into cancer treatment. A typical search will conclude with a complete overview of the disease and treatment options through to a detailed examination of traditional and non-traditional aspects of the disease including; general care and treatment, diagnosis, surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, drug therapy, clinical trials, biologic therapy, genetics, complications, risk factors, demographics, naturopathy, and homeopathy. The report generally tends to act as an information guide for determining and following a specific treatment plan. With patients and oncologists, the group also sources selected treatment protocols. This can include acquisition of drugs, referrals to specialists and specializing institutions , and negotiating with insurance carriers and government in underwriting treatment costs. Counselling: Counselling the group provides is generally in consultation with our associate psychiatrist. It can take many forms, but principally that of emotional and collegial support. This is often complimented with various forms of psycho-physiological support such as visualization, structured reframing, collapse of paradigms, and theories of psychoneuroimmunology. Advocacy: Advocacy generally takes the form of interpreting information, issues and concerns between patient and health practitioner. The benefit to both is a more objective and thoughtful approach in treatment, complications, and recovery. Referral: The group provides a referral service. Referral cross a variety of services including; health care, naturopathy/homeopathy, psychiatry/psychology, social services, public and private insurance plans, government services, legal, and benevolent organizations.
