Do you wish you could break into the Hi Tech job market but are frustrated that employers are looking for working experience or formal training in such languages as C++ or Java? ON-SITE may be a solution for you. ON-SITE is looking for candidates WITHOUT established hi-tech credentials but with appropriate technical backgrounds and interests and with high degrees of comfort with computer use. You must be in receipt or eligible for Canadian Employment Insurance (EI) benefits to participate. There is no cost to the candidate. ON-SITE is a national job creation partnership between industry and government and is placing hundreds of unemployed candidates with private sector firms for 6 month terms. Salaries are paid through EI. Although there is no guarantee of placement, more than 70% of those who are placed do get ongoing employment (30%+ with original employer, 40%+ in a similar position with another firm). ON-SITE is currently seeking candidates for two types of positions. 1) Technology Adoption: Candidates are placed to assist firms in adopting off-the-shelf technology in order to implement greater business automation. Examples include: --helping construction firms get on-line so they can receive, transmit and deal with electronic drawings, --assist retailers in establishing automated inventory control systems, --aid business in setting up database systems to manage their affairs, --etc. For this type of position desirable qualifications include education, work experience or significant personal interest (including time spent) in internet development, database management/development, etc. A business or marketing/sales background may be an advantage, as would significant experience with specialized software applications. 2) Technology Development: Candidates are placed with advanced technology firms in internship positions. These placements are intended to result in software development work experience and act as a foot-in-the-door for those with ability but no formal software development training. For this type of position desirable qualifications include degrees in science, engineering, physics, etc. and demonstrable experience and comfort with working with software code.
