The CIPS Fredericton Section Executive Committee have discussed the SGM
and its motions. At a meeting on March 16, 1999 a summarized statement
was drafted and the following memorandum was sent with hopes to be read
at the SGM. The Executive Committee would also like this placed on
National's 'what sections are saying' webpage.
[Disclaimer: Though most of the items in this memorandum were summarized
from discussions with a number of members of the Fredericton Section,
this statement does not necessarily represent the views of the
Fredericton Section membership. The SGM voting results will indicate
those views.]

Memorandum
To: CIPS National Board of Directors
From: CIPS Fredericton Executive Committee
Date: March 18, 1999
Re: Special General Meeting - Motion 2
We, the members of the Executive Committee of the Fredericton
Section of CIPS, wish to express our support of Motion 2.
The Executive Committee of the Fredericton Section are dismayed at:
1. the process used to dismiss an elected Vice President;
2. the lack of specific details provided by the National Board
regarding what had actually occurred;
3. the less-than-democratic process used to appoint a replacement
VP;
4. the lack of impartiality demonstrated by the Board when the
threat of mass resignations was included in the cover letter of
the SGM package;
5. the false statement found on the SGM communication regarding
Mr. Gallinger calling the SGM;
6. the unprofessional, unhealthy threats of resignations by members
of a National Board;
7. the presumptuous statement that a "yes" vote at the SGM is a
vote of non-confidence.
The entire "National/Vice President affair" has caused irreparable
harm to CIPS' reputation. It has potentially harmed the local
objectives of provincial registration and impacted the volunteer
base.
The members of the Executive Committee of the Fredericton Section
of CIPS support Motion #2 in hope that changes will be made to the
process of dismissing Executive members.
