2.0 Web News
2.1 Microsoft
We reported to you last month to expect the release of
Microsoft's Internet Explorer Version 3 beta on March 12. This
was based on a special notice we have received as CalNet on
The Iway is an offical Internet Explorer site. However this was
incorrect, it was actually the Alpha of Version 3. We do not
recommend that it be used yet, as it is missing a number of features
which will be in the released version. The beta of version 3
should begin in late April or early May, until then stick with
Version 2 of Internet Explorer.
2.2 Netscape
Netscape Navigator Gold is now out of beta and is
available as a general release at version 2.01. Gold is the same
as the regular Netscape with added functionality of Webpage
creation. If you are currently using version 2.0 of Netscape, we
recommend you download version 2.01 of the product. There is a
potential security problem that is corrected somewhat in version
2.01. The problem is with the feature called JavaScript (not
to be confused with JAVA, they are two different things). A website
could potentially capture information from your machine using this
feature. Although is quite unlikey that you will experience any
trouble with JavaScript, in version 2.01 you can disable it if you
wish. Version 2.0 has no such option.
2.3 The Americans are coming.
At least two major American Internet Service Providers are
now operating in Calgary. They are Netcom and PSINet. With upwards
of 30 local ISP's already, it will be interesting to see what impact
they will have on the local market.

Remember that place where they flush the tax payers dollars
down the drain for goofy looking pictures (or least that's what
our right wing media would have us believe). I think it's called
the National Gallery of Canada, well it's online now at:
http://national.gallery.ca/. Give it and try and see if it's worth
your dollars, you may be pleasantly suprised, a very well done site.
Hey Dan, remember this. One of the world's great museums has

4.0 Trivia Question of the Month:
A real toughie this month: What is Club 33?
Here's a hint, check the website at www.disney.com for
a clue. First respondee with the correct answer will get
mentioned next month.
Last month's question was:
What are the 3 M's in 3M, and for bonus points what are the
3 COM's in 3COM. And the answer is:
3M is Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing,
The 3COM's are Computers, Communications, and Compatability.
A lot of people got the 3M thing quickly including:
Austin Hook, Stephen King, Jeff Allison, and Peter Carless.
As for 3COM only Austin Hook of the Computer Shop of Calgary
(http://www.canuck.com/cshop) got it right.
The CalNet On The Iway WebSite is available online at:
