Many members of the Liberal caucus fear that they are perceived as being soft on crime, even if mindless leftists on the Usenet like David Reilley do not. A report this morning states that "...the minister was taken to task at Wednesday's caucus meeting over the matter (only because of the National Post's picture spread of Karla Homolka having a ball partying and modeling at the minimum security Joliette prison. McCauley lied about the intervening to reporters by saying "There was a decision made by Corrections Services Canada, of course, not a decision of mine. It's normal process". This is bullshit. The "normal process" is to be overly permissive and indulgent with criminals and murderers, unless the government and bureaucracy are embarrassed into proper action by bad publicity and public outrage. Nothing would have changed with Homolka's pampering if it had not been for the National Post's photographs.
