As a follow-up to the Writers Wanted! posting last week, Young Peoples Press has a commitment from Thomson News Service that it will transmit one article each week to its 22 daily and six weekly newspapers across Canada. They are calling the column Young Canadian Voices, and they want articles to be approximately 500 words, written from a personal perspective. The first one is going out April 15 and was written by a Grade 10 student at Agincourt Collegiate in Toronto. She wrote about her parents separating and the effect it had on her. This is a tremendous opportunity for young people to have a voice in the mainstream media. Anyone, ages 13 to 19 or so, anywhere in Canada, interested in submitting a personal column, on any topic relevant to teens and/or adults across Canada, can e-mail it to Don Curry, Editor-in-Chief, Young Peoples Press, at ccsj@onlink.net In a letter to editors across Canada dated April 11, Bob Spence, Manager of Thomson News Service, said The column offers teenagers an opportunity to let the rest of society know what they think and feel. We are looking for as diverse a group of young writers as possible, from all parts of Canada. We hope to hear from you soon!
