Online education for students in grades 3 to 6 is being offered
through Edmonton Public Schools. This new program is called
LearnNet, "a virtual classroom".

LearnNet, is an educational program offered at Kirkness School,
Edmonton, Alberta. LearnNet is a school-based home learning
alternative where students perform the majority of their work at
home, but are linked to their teacher, their fellow students and
school resources through telecommunications. Students use this
link to receive assignments electronically, to submit work and to
communicate to others. The social component of learning and the
ability to work with others in small groups is very important. At
this time LearnNet is organized to address social needs through a
requirement that students come to the school periodically for
involvement in such activities as group projects, conferences,
labs and learning demonstrations.
