Interested in students "at-risk or drop-out" of school? We would like
to offer you a new option in dealing with this problem.
 Accroche-Toi is a prevention site focusing on students at-risk of
dropping out and/or the ones who have already dropped out of school.
It has been on line for more than a year and is still very much active.
It is supported by RESCOL, an iniative of Industry-Canada, and under
the responsibility of Christiane Bouchard and Andre Rouleau.
Christiane Bouchard a resource teacher, has been involved with children
and teenagers for the last 19 years. Her experience with young adults
dropping out of school has extended over a period of six years. Andr
Rouleau teaches English as a second language and has developed various
education related Internet applications.
We invite you to take a look at the Accroche-Toi site at the following
URL : http://www.rescol.ca/adm/orientation/accroche-toi. We average a
number
of 590 hits per day with a marked interest on accounts by young people and
in the discussion bulletin board .
Since Accroche-toi has demonstrated the need for services for students at
risk of leaving school, we would like to offer these same services to the
English community. We seek your help in the development of this mirror
English Internet site, Hooked-On-School, which is also supported by
SchoolNet.
Like Accroche-toi, Hooked-On-School is a site where Canadian teenagers
who have dropped out or are thinking about dropping out will:
- get information on the consequences of dropping-out of school, etc.;
- have access to a bank of Internet resources to get more information on
dropping out of school;
- including links to schools and Ministries of Education involved with
this project;
- participate in a discussion forum so that these teenagers can express
and exchange about their reality;
- have the possibility of engaging in a monthly discussion with resource
teachers or other specialists through the use of SchoolNet's MOO ;
- examine the possibilities of offering such on line discussions to
parents
and adults;
The site will also provide a discussion forum to parents, teachers,
educators,
and all adults interested by this problem. Our immediate objectives are
to:
- gather teenagers accounts and anecdotes pertaining to their experiences
with dropping out of school;
- research the WEB in order to find links relating to the theme of the
site;
- contact schools throughout Canada in order to secure an agreement of
involvement amongst us and the site.
We would appreciate your assistance in providing us with contact
information
for on-line schools or people who might be interested in participating.
If you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to
contact us at: Tel : (819) 293-8447 (answering machine);
