Since we are talking about improving schools, I thought it only fitting to reply, since I am a 16-year-old sophmore/junior that attended St. Paul Central the last two years, and respond to the problems we have in schools. The biggest one we have to worry about is RACE RELATIONS!!! It seems that the way school officials solve problems is making a "program". This I feel is a cop-out and does not have the students in mind (we are the ones that they have to worry about, supposedly). Whites and Blacks (not to mention Asian and Native American) are so divided that even the LUNCHROOMS are segregated. You might say "It's not our fault" or "We don't make the students sit anywhere they don't want to". THe truth of the matter is, by making these "programs", you divide us [the students] so many ways that we are intimidated by each other. I am begging any school official that reads this to PLEASE help bring the races together as one human race. Teach history from all over the world (my world history class covered only Europe. Small world, huh?). Teach literature from african and asian cultures. WE [the students] ARE SICK OF HEARING ABOUT ALL WHITE FOLKS!!!! Truthfully yours, An angry middle-class white male
