I have a home work problem. May anyone give me some good suggestion or
ideas to solve the problem.
PROBLEM:
Fred Tombstone, a professional engineer, is manager of a chemical
plant in a central Ontario town. Early in the summer he notices that
the plant is creating slightly more water pollution for the lake into
which its waste line drains than is legally permitted. If he contacts
the provincial ministry of the environment and reveals the problem,
there will be a considerable amount of unfavourable publicity for the
plant. The publicity will also hurt the lake-side town's resort
business and may scare the community. Apart from that, solving the
problem may cost his company over $100,000. If he tells no one, it is
unlikely that outsiders will discover the problem. The violation does
not pose an immediate danger to the public, and at most, might kill a
small number of fish. Making reference to specific sections of the
PEO Code of Ethics and Code of Professional Misconduct, discuss the
ethical considerations that should guide Mr. Tombstone's actions.
