I have posted this to a Food Service Message Board and only gotten one response so decided to post it here to see if you could help with the answers to these questions. Thanks. I need your help to answer these quetions. 1.) During the Littleton School Shootings where were the cafeteria staff? 2.) Did Littleton School allow students to come and work in the kitchen area? 3.) Should school kids be allowed to work in the kitchen area? 4.) During searches of school property is the kitchen and cafeteria searched by officials with dogs or kitchen staff workers? The reason I am asking these questions is because I work at a School Cafeteria. We had an e-mail threat at our school on Friday. The officials were brought in and searched EVERY area of the school but FAILED to search the kitchen/cafeteria area. Isn't that where the BIGGEST bomb was found at Littleton? When the boss was asked why they did not search our school's cafeteria, her answer was, they depend on us to tell them IF anything is out of place because we work there. Why should they put the whole student body and staff in the hands of us when it comes to searching for guns and bombs? Are we really qualified to do such searches? We have three students who work in the kitchen/cafeteria area. Two are mentally handicapped so, aren't they vulnerable? Couldn't they be talked into bringing something in without even knowing what it was? The other one is a High School student. Again, they tell me it is fine, he is safe, but do we REALLY KNOW this? Did they think the two boys at Littleton were safe too? Can any of you tell me the answers to my questions? Where were the cafeteria workers when all this killing started? Can we please hear something from their point of view? They may hold the answer for how all the bombs got in there to start with, or at least how the biggest one got in the kitchen. Then we can work from there to solve this problem of WHY these things always happen in the cafeteria area. From our view point, as kitchen staff workers, what can the school do to make things safer in the cafeteria? Please be kind and help me start people in the right direction concerning the cafeteria/kitchen. Lets make our cafeteria a secure place to be nourished. It is our job after all to take care of the needs of our children. One of their GREATEST needs at this point in time is to be SAFE while being FED! Join me in getting the work started. Post your comments and suggestions here. I am not a director or a manager. I am only a server but I am concerned enough about these issues to post this message. I challenge all directors and managers to get involved. Safety and nutrition go hand and hand. Thank you for any help you are willing to give. Please e-mail me directly as I am really committed to this issue. Sincerely, Rhonda Cooley -- Rhonda Home of RonCool at WBS http://members.wbs.net/homepages/r/o/n/roncool.html
