DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE NATIONAL DEBT Take action against public debt as individuals rather than relying on, (and pointing fingers at), politicians. **Just Say No** by refusing T-bills, bonds, or any other form of government debt. Boycotting government debt can force government to operate on a current basis and pay off debts as they come due, rather than refinancing. Only by eliminating the debt and the servicing cost can we get $1 of benefits from $1 of taxes paid. With most of Canada's debt held internally, control of Canada's debt does reside within the country. We have the power to make it happen. A substantial amount of the debt is invested by professional fund managers. Individuals can take an active role in ensuring that managers of their money direct investment to non-government destinations along the lines of, (or a form of), ethical investing. Harrass your pension fund manager!! Nobody else is going to do it for us. It is our responsibility. Do not be deceived by the mythical security of government debt. Direction of funds to government (and therefore away from the private sector) undermines productivity and financial security. In order for government to repay (with interest) the money that it borrows from you, it must: tax you out of your other pocket (enough said) tax somebody else (yeah, right!) borrow from somebody else (sure it can can go on forever) print it (enough said again) There is no real security in government debt. The political arena is defined as a place of compromise, not action; so if our finances are to be healed, the action must come from ourselves. We have the power. We have the responsibility. It will pay. Just Say No to government debt. Spread the word -- to saver/investors -- to your money manager Comments: mailto:wmelia@nanaimo.ark.com11:03AM
