Description 

Unix Environment:

The Consumers Gas Unix support team (presently 3 people) looks after
hardware and OS related issues for 34 HP9000 S800 servers (T, K, D
class). The majority of the machines act as Sybase servers running a
multitude of corporate and infrastructure applications. In addition,
there are two EMC high capacity storage units servicing both MVS and
open systems machines.

Tasks:

Unix system administrators are responsible for taking care of daily
requests coming to the team such as: space allocations, filesystems,
new ids, password resets, software installations, troubleshooting
assistance, all issues related to the unix hardware and operating
system, facilitating machine hardware upgrades, software/OS upgrades,
patch analysis and performance tuning. Each person must participate in
an oncall rotation as all machines are supported 24x7.

Unix team members also participate in project work by getting involved
in planning, analyzing and implementing various infrastructure related
strategies or working in an advisory role on IT development teams.
Good oral and written communications skills are essential as you will
be expected to prepare documentation for new techniques or procedures
useful for the functioning of the team. All members are encouraged to
coach one another in improving their technical skills. Team members
support all group efforts geared towards serving our IT clients in an
environment of constant change. 


"Must Have" Skills

�2 years of HP-UX background, OS versions 9.04,10.01, 10.20;�Exposure
to performance and tuning issues, backup software;�Strong analytical
and troubleshooting skills;�You must be team oriented (able to take a
lead position or supporting role).



"Nice to Have" Skills

�Ability to participate in on call rotation (typically 1 week every 3
weeks, 24 hrs a day);�Access to personal vehicle or close proximity to
500 Consumers Road location (Victoria Park and Consumers Road -
between Sheppard and 401);�Experience with GlancePlus, PerfView,
MirrorDisk, Logical Volume Manager.
