Brian, I've got one of those HP thinnet boards sitting in the box here.

We have an HP IIIsi that we wanted to use as a shared printer between our
tcp/ip stuff (vaxes etc) and our novell stuff. I thought from the sales
junk that I could throw in an ethernet board, which comes with firmware
to act as an IPX (novell) print server, to do the novell side and use
the serial port through a terminal server to do the ip side.

WRONG.

The net board _REPLACES_ the serial interface.

So, until I find money for:

	a) Novell's NFS so it can print ip stuff
	b) Portable Netware so I can print novell stuff from a vax
	c) another IIIsi

or time for:
	d) some sort of pc bridge to move print jobs

..... we still use an A-B switch between the VAX and the Novell server!

What HP needs to come up with is firmware that does lpr and lp and novell
and maybe even takes a telnet connection ala some terminal servers all at
the same time. Oh well.. I probably still wouldn't have any money. :(

A couple of other points:

I haven't tried running HP-PCL5 and Postscript together. If you have
to get up to go change the A-B switch anyway....

The manual says that in order to run with Novell 3.xx you have to
turn the password encription off. Just what I was thinking of doing in an
envrionment where we have 200 pc hackers at any given moment on the same cable!

Let me know how you make out. I imagine your problems are similar but your
milage may vary.

At least I feel better letting off some steam. :)
