I noticed in PC Magazine(!) that the new Hewlett Packard LaserJet IIISi
has an optional ethernet interface. I assume that means the printer
can be connected on a network just like a workstation. I'm presently
using an SBus card to send data to a printer's parallel port, an
ethernet link would remove that bottleneck.
How does the interface to the Unix print spooler work? What about the
printcap entry? Other filter programs?
I'm interested in giving this a try, but I'd like to get some more
information first. Is anyone reading this message running a printer
in this configuration?
I'm running SunOS here, in case that matters to your reply.
Thanks!
