# I noticed in PC Magazine(!) that the new Hewlett Packard LaserJet IIISi
# has an optional ethernet interface. I assume that means the printer
# can be connected on a network just like a workstation. I'm presently
# using an SBus card to send data to a printer's parallel port, an
# ethernet link would remove that bottleneck.
The one listed in the PC Magazine is probably for networks like Novell. HP
has just announced the TCP/IP option for some laser printers. You are
probably not going to get a speed up by switching from parallel (HP
interface is 100 to 400 Mbits/s tops) to ethernet. There are advantages
to going to ethernet but speed is not one of them.
#
# How does the interface to the Unix print spooler work? What about the
# printcap entry? Other filter programs?
Not quite sure.
#
# I'm interested in giving this a try, but I'd like to get some more
# information first. Is anyone reading this message running a printer
# in this configuration?
#
# I'm running SunOS here, in case that matters to your reply.
SunOS is one of the three platforms that is supported by HP. See recent
posting listed below.

# Thanks!
