well, let's see...

another poster recommended trustco. i opened a schenectady trust
account many years back (early to mid 80s, when i worked at the now
defunct Phoenix Data Systems), was happy for a number of years, but
it seemed like in the post name change era, the bank wasn't as nice
as when i started there, so i moved on.

i went to norstar. they were very good. they became fleet. things
went downhill.

my mortgage has been with Pioneer Savings Bank (downtown troy, not many
offices) since the mid 80s. i like them very much, and refinanced with
them a few years back, but the small number of offices may be a problem
for some. it's why i didn't move my checking account there.

when my wife and i switched from fleet, we went with Albany Savings Bank.
after a number of years (and the obligatory name change), we're still
quite happy with the bank.

finally, i hear that Troy Savings Bank is quite good, but have no direct
experience with them.

cheers,
  richard
