GOP SLEPT WITH THE DEVIL;
WHAT TO DO WITH THE BABY??

The GOP: Dissociative Politics

In their quest for power the GOP slept around and made a
deal with the devil. And now, sooner than expected, the devil is
calling for his due. They seem surprised -- which is a surprise.
Any good businessperson knows that one doesn't wiggle out of a
contract easily. Isn't it ironic that while the GOP put a
contract out on America, all along the Far-Right had a contract
out on them.

Divide and Conquer

One might think the new GOP took lessons from Sybil's
mother. Their style in the past few years has been the same as
hers: take one, treat it badly, and split it into many. And, in
the splitting, one side develops an animosity and sometimes even
hatred, toward the other -- instead of toward the one who caused
the split to begin with. Unfortunately, they are unable to see
that all are part of the whole.

And they're all doing this splitting.

George Pataki is doing it in New York. Never before has a
supposed leader of New York pitted one region of the state against
another for political gain.

Rush Limbaugh is doing it. He's developed the fine art of
pre-pubescent name-calling, insulting, and blaming... and
developed a following that is of an equal developmental level.
Recall, if you will, his use of the term, Feminazi. Or the time he
held up a picture of Chelsea Clinton while announcing that she was
the "Whitehouse dog."

Bob Dole has done it. He has been quick to jump onto the
bandwagon using the meaningless--but inflammatory--term, "Special
Rights", in reference to the gay and lesbian community's call for
civil rights.

[Far Right] Groups such as the Oregon Citizens
Alliance, and Colorado for Family Values (CFV), started
fighting gay rights in their states at the "grass
roots." They introduced the term "special rights" to
imply that gays and lesbians wanted more than equal
rights. (Skipp Porteous, Inside Glen Eyrie Castle: The
Organized Assault on Gay Rights", Freedom Writer,
     September 1994)

Those Jewish people in pre-WWII Germany were probably calling for
"Special Rights", too.

Pat Buchanan is doing it. And manages to draw every bigot
from every far-right group into his camp.

        Adolf Hitler did it.

The GOP baby is the spirit of Pat Buchanan. It wouldn't
have to be Buchanan. He happens to be the one who's popped up. G.
Gordon Liddy would have been a fine substitute as well. So would
David Duke. Or Bob Dornan.

"Don't use the word 'gay' unless it's an acronym for
'Got Aids Yet'". (Representative Bob Dornan)

And what is that spirit? Sugar-coated hate--masquerading
as "morality" and exclusionary politics--designed to appeal to the
frustration and anger and beliefs of the lowest common
denominator.

"On the whole, the [liberal] press, as usual, was
partly pitiful and partly contemptible, and only a few
     honest newspapers..."

We've heard this one a lot. The "liberal" press. Not
telling the "truth". Etc. Etc. Etc.

A slight liberty was taken with the above quote. To bring
it into the 90's, one word, "liberal", was changed. The original
quote uses the term, "Bourgeois" and was entirely in German. In
fact, it comes from a book called "Mein Kampf" written by Adolf
Hitler.

It is understandable why more and more people are
comapring the current right-wing phenomenon with 1930's Germany.
Frighteningly, it has the same flavor.

Whose philosophy does this reflect? The US Far Right Wing,
Limbaugh, Buchanan ...or Hitler? You be the judge:

"All propaganda must be popular and its intellectual
level must be adjusted to the most limited intelligence
among those it is addressed to. Consequently, the
greater the mass it is intended to reach, the lower its
purely intellectual level will have to be."

If you guessed the author was Hitler, you were right.

Or this? The US Far Right Wing, Limbaugh, Buchanan ...or
Hitler? You be the judge:

"But the power which has always started the greatest
religious and political avalanches in history rolling
has from time immemorial been the magic power of the
spoken word [...] Only a storm of hot passion can turn
the destinies of peoples, and he alone can arouse
passion who bears it within himself."

If you guessed that Hitler wrote this one, too, you were right.

Apparently, it doesn't matter whether or not something is
true, just as long as the message--the spoken word--pushes people
to certain beliefs or actions that are in line with what the
speaker(s) want. Take Al "I'm so ethical" D'Amato's current
attempts to lynch Hilary Clinton.

In their quest for power, the GOP has been sleeping around.

Back in New York

At his own State of the State speech, New Yorkers had the
opportunity to witness George Pataki standing right next to one of
the state's far-right radical extremists, the Rev. Duane Motley,
head of "New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms". While others
were scrambling to get tickets to the event, Motley got right in.

Motley is also a member of the highly-secretive, far right
national organization known as the "Council for National Policy."
They don't like people to know they exist, not to mind who is on
their membership list.

New York's Attorney General, Dennis Vacco and Congressional
Representative Bill Paxon, husband of Rep. Susan Molinari, didn't
think twice about sleeping with the far-right Christian Coalition
at their annual meeting this past year.

                              ***

The devil and the GOP. Clearly not a marriage made in heaven.
And the baby is pretty ugly, too.
