INTERNET CONTENT

This survey is for my school project, so if you could take a few
minutes out of your day to complete this survey and e-mail it to me,
by just copying this survey and pasting it into a new e-mail message
and answering the questions by placing some kind of character next to
your choice, then send it to me at: yeehaw@bigfoot.com

Thanks
	Gavin <yeehaw@bigfoot.com>

1.What gender are you?
	M
	F

2. What age group are you?
	10-14
	15-19
	20-29
	30-39
	40+

3. What type of Internet user are you?
	Casual
	Educator
	Researcher
	Administrator
	Other

4. What is your main reason for getting access to the Internet?

	Business
	Educational
	Leisure
	Information
	Other

5. The Internet allows anyone from around the world to exchange all
kinds of information, most of it good and legal, and some of it
dangerous and highly illegal. Various governments around the world
want to restrict the information on the Internet, and make it illegal
to have any information which could be dangerous in the wrong hands on
the net, do you think that this is..

	A good idea
Depends on the kind of information
	A bad idea
	Couldnt care less

6. The Japanese, and Middle East governments restricted access to the
Internet for everyone in the country, so that they were unable to
access web sites containing information which speak against the
government, and could be damaging to their reputation. Japanese
citizens got around this by hooking up to the Internet by using
Internet service providers outside of their country, which is an
expensive international call. If you were in this situation were the
government restricted your Internet access, would you do this?

	Yes, definitely
Yes, if I had the money
	Possibly
	No, never
	Not worried

7.Free speech is an important part of the Internet, allowing people
from all over the world to speak out about any thing they feel
strongly about. The Chinese government did not like it's citizens
talking about, and criticizing it's government, and wanted it stopped.
Do you think that free speech should be banned or not?

	Yes definitely
	Possibly
	No, never
	Dont care

8.All kinds of information and is available on the Internet, from
research material and various hints for fixing problems, to
information on how to make pipe bombs, plastic explosive and other
assorted explosive or money saving/stealing instructions. Do you think
that this sort of stuff should be allowed on the Internet?

	Yes, definitely
	Yes, but restricted
	No, never
	Dont care

9.Also, there are a vast number of sites on the Internet containing
links to pirated games, software, and cracks for time restricted
programs, resulting in a large loss of income for the programmers who
spent months, years even, designing the software and getting rid of
bugs. Do you think that this is fair for the programmers?

Yes, They make enough money from what they do sell.
If the program is old enough (a three years or older)
		No, it's totally unfair.
		Don't really care about it.

10. In certain states in America you can set up you own Web site, and
if your Service Provider allows it, have any kind of information you
like on it. If you happen to live in a state where this information is
illegal and get caught with this material on your computer, you can be
fined thousands of dollars, be imprisoned, and even have your computer
confiscated. Do you think that this is fair?

Yes, absolutely, they know the law.
		Yes, with reservation.
No, the government should get their act together.
		Don't care.

11. Pornography is a thriving industry on the Internet, netting around
200 million dollars per year, making it quite profitable for owners,
and people who set up the sites. Although you have to pay to get
anything worth getting, all you need is an international credit card,
and for anyone who cant afford there are free tasters of what you can
get, most of them edited and censored, but could still be damaging for
the psyche of any young children who come across it, deliberately or
by accident. Do you think that pornography should be allowed on the
Internet?

Yes, if they allow it in magazine shops, why not?
		Only if they suitably censored.
No, shouldn't be allowed any where.
		Don't care about it.

12. Recently the United States of America failed to pass a law which
would effectively remove all American based pornographic web sites
taking away the income from the many people who earn their income
either setting up, or featuring live on the sites. Should this law
have been passed?

		Yes, definitely.
Only if it was absolutely necessary.
No, it shouldn't have even been suggested.
		Don't care.

13. An estimated one third of all Internet users visit a site
featuring pornographic items, each month. Do you think that this is an
accurate number?

		Maybe over estimated.
		Yes, totally accurate.
		Maybe under estimated.
		Couldn't care less

14. With all this material floating around on the Internet, there is
only one real way to prevent anyone using your Internet connection to
obtain undesirable and illegal information, and that is by getting a
program like Cyber Patrol which costs $US29.95 for the program which
prevents access to certain Web sites, then an additional $US29.95 per
year for daily updates of restricted sites. If you knew this was
happening with your Internet connection would you consider getting one
of these programs?

		Yes, Unquestionably
Only if it didn't cost too much
No, it'll restrict my access as well
		Don't care

15. Some of the sites which have been restricted by the Cyber Patrol
proudly proclaim that fact by having a banner at the top of the page
stating that they have been deemed unsuitable by the Cyber Patrol. Do
you think this is blatant disregard for authority?

		Yes, Absolutely
		No, not really
		I don't care

16. Children have had their access restricted, will attempt to break
through the restriction to get total access. If your child had managed
to bypass your attempts at restricting their access, and you knew
about it, would you continue to use the current filtering software
(Cyber Patrol, Net Nanny, Surf Watch etc)?

No, I'd get some new software
Not if I could reestablish control
		Yes, after contacting the manufactures
		Couldn't care less

Thank you very much for your time.
