Is it worth the trip? The Altamont Fair is really divided in half. On one side of the track (a dirt/gravel oval where they used to race cars & horses), are the 4H buildings, animal barns, and judging areas; on the other side is the midway with all kinds of sickening rides (ugh :-), and games of chance, etc, and once in a while a freak show. There is something going on at the grand stand every night of the fair. On Monday, the Joey Chitwood thrill show comes to town (cars on two wheels, jumping over trucks, and the like). After that, I think it's the circus every night ... may be other things thrown in too, but I'm not sure on that. As county fairs go, I think this is one of the better ones (but then again, my Dad is the General Manager of the fair, so what else would I say :-) -- Tim -- Timothy G.
