Old Songs will be holdong its winter/spring session of classes in
traditional instrumental music. The following classes will be held:

BEGINNING MOUNTAIN DULCIMER with Sue Carpenter 7:00-8:30pm

Have a dulcimer but dont know how to make music with it? Learn how to:
pick out familiar melodies, strum simple rhythms, tune, and
read music and tablature. The class will provide you with an
extensive beginners repertoire and help you to learn more tunes on your
own. There will be a materials fee (for copying music) of $2 per
student, payable at the first class. For information call Sue at
518-766-2619.

BEGINNING AUTOHARP with Richard Raczkowski 7:00-8:30pm

The autoharp is an instrument that sounds wonderful and is very easy to
begin playing, yet can offer sufficient challenge to keep you engrossed
for years. This class is designed for those who want to begin playing
music on the autoharp. Absolutely no experience is required. Tuning,
chord changing, strumming, and beginning melody playing are some of the
topics that will be covered. For more info, call Richard at
518-765-3281.

BEGINNING CLAWHAMMER BANJO with George Ward 7:00-8:30

This is a class for folks who want to begin playing 5-string banjo.
George will teach clawhammer (frailing) technique and basic banjo lore.
He will provide students with a beginning repertoire through a
progressive series of tunes. Call George at 518-399-0315 for more info.

INTERMEDIATE MOUNTAIN DULCIMER with Sue Carpenter 8:30-10:00

Tired of the same old rhythms or wishing you knew more than Aunt Rhody
and Old Joe Clark? In 6 or 8 weeks you can expand your playing style
and repertoire by learning about chords, modes, fingerpicking,
strumming, and flat picking. This intermediate class is designed to
pick up where Sue leaves off in her beginners class, but anyone who has
learned the basics of strumming and tablature reading will find the
class motivating. There will be an additional materials fee (for
copying music) of $2 per student, payable to the instructor at the first
class. For information call Sue at 518-766-2619

AUTOHARP II: BEYOND THE BASICS with Richard Raczkowski 8:30-10:00

This course will take autoharp players who are already somewhat familiar
with the instrument, and give them what they need to know to become good
intermediate-level players. Topics covered will include advanced
strumming techniques, ways to approach the learning of new songs, going
beyond simple melody not pinching, and autoharp modifications designed
to make playing the instrument easier. Please come to class with a
tuned instrument. For more info, call Richard at 518-765-3281

FINGERSTYLE GUITAR with George Ward 8:30-10:00

If you can strum a few chords and wish you could play some real tunes or
if you are a singer who wants to play accompaniments with style then
this is the place to start. George will use a progressive series of
tunes and songs plus 30 years of teaching experience to get your hands
moving and your mind thinking guitar. The class is intended for
beginners who know a few chords and/or notes, or for occasional
strummers who need some focus to grow. Call George at 518-399-0315 for
more info.
