Could the problem be that they found people were smuggling alcohol
in by putting it in other containers, foods, etc? When I was in college
the old trick was to use a syringe to put it into fruit. I've also seen
people put liquor into soda bottles to drink it at ski lodges where it is
forbidden to bring your own. Unless they tasted it, it could be hard to
pick up. If they had some problems next year, they could be worried about
reoccurrance and liability problems if someone gets hurt.
I'm not saying I agree with them doing this but it could be a possible
explanation. Last year the special ground rules were specifically stated in
the ticket brochure listing all of the concerts. Did that tell have the new
rules? (I probably wouldn't think to look at it.) If it had the new rules
they'll probably just say that it was given and you should have read it.
(We didn't get any tickets this year so I didn't look at the brochure.)
Your right in that it seems like they are discouraging the popular
concerts. I don't know revenue wise what generates more. I would assume
the pop concerts but then there is also the fact that the names on the board
and the list of sponsors look to be the blue blood crowd. I think that they
are the people providing the big bucks to support the other activities.
I have an aquantince (sp?) on the medical staff for the concerts. I'll
ask him the next time I see him if they had problems with the concerts last
year. I would assume they feel that the crowd for the ballet and symphony
is less likely to cause problems due to drinking, etc. I know he did say
that they plan the number of medical groups at the concert based on how they
think the crowd will be and past experience with that group. I'm pretty
sure that he said that they don't usually have any problems with the ballet
and symphony crowd where they usually have a couple of incidents at each
of the special event concerts. I'll try to get specifics.
