                          Systems/Network Manager

Health  Research,  Inc.,  a  not-for-profit  corp., seeks a Systems/Network
Manager  to  be  the  lead  technical  specialist in the Wadsworth Center's
Computer  Systems  Support  Team.   The  Wadsworth Center's rapidly growing
environment  consists  of  a  1200-node  network including 4 sites; 69 UNIX
systems;  13 VMS systems; 33 SGI systems; & over 800 PCs & MACs.  Incumbent
will  be  part  of  a  team managing these systems in a fast-paced research
environment.   In  addition,  the  incumbent  will  independently  manage 3
projects:   A)  Research   user  needs related to collaborative projects w/
academic  colleagues  outside  the  Wadsworth  Center.   This  will involve
possible   use   of  advanced  TCP/IP  networking.   B)  Design  systems  &
infrastructure  to support remote grant activities over the internet.  This
may  include  mgmt.  of  Wadsworth's  connect  to  Internet  II  & mgmt. of
Quality-of-Service protocols.  C) Design & manage a multi-year migration of
services & applications off of 13 VMS systems onto UNIX systems.  This will
consist  of  needs  assessment, feasibility studies, & change management of
the transition. Bachelors degree & 3 yrs demonstrated experience in diverse
UNIX  Management  & System Programming; demonstrated exp. in customer needs
assessment,  designing  advance  systems configurations, & advanced systems
diagnostic skills.  Experience must include SUN SOLARIS & SGI IRIX.  Strong
background  in  systems  programming  including  NIS,  NFS,  PERL,  & Shell
Scripts,  SMB  Protocols,  &  all  aspects  of  advanced TCP/IP networking.
Masters  degree & 2 yrs. Exp. in NIS+.  Exp. w/ VMS systems administration.
Knowledge  of  advanced  scientific research computing needs in an academic
environment.    Position   funded  through  3/31/99  w/  continued  funding
anticipated.  Salary is at the rate of:  $50,245 - $61,555/yr.  Resume must
