A Place for Jazz is a non-profit organization that promotes Jazz in
the Capital District.  Every fall A Place for Jazz sponsors a series
of Jazz concerts in the "whisperdome" of the First Unitarian Society,
1221 Wendell Ave, Schenectady.  Their first concert of the 1992 season
features jazz vocalist Ronnie Wells, this Friday, 18 September,
starting at 8 pm.  Tickets are $13.50.  For information call (518)
374-6912.  Tickets are sold at the door, unless they run out.

"In recent years such stars as Shirley Horne, Roberta Flack, and Buck
Hill have emerged from Washington, D.C. and received national
attention.  Now Ronnie Wells reputation has burst out of the Beltway.
Her performance is a continuation of the long tradition of the long
tradition of Jazz songwomanship that has passed from Bessie to Billie,
Billie to Sarah with a touch of Ella, Dinah, and Carmen along the way.
