mgetty problem

Hi,

I've just installed mgetty (with 2.0.36), but a few things seem not to
work properly. When dialing into the server from a client machine, the
server answers, but sends only garbage back.

The mgetty logfile on the server looks like this:

03/07 18:08:05 yS0 mgetty: official release 1.0.0
03/07 18:08:05 yS0 check for lockfiles
03/07 18:08:05 yS0 locking the line
03/07 18:08:05 yS0 can't get group 'modem': No such file or directory
03/07 18:08:06 yS0 lowering DTR to reset Modem
03/07 18:08:07 yS0 send: \dATQ0V1H0[0d]
03/07 18:08:07 yS0 waiting for ``OK'' ** found **
03/07 18:08:07 yS0 send: ATS0=0Q0&D3&C1[0d]
03/07 18:08:07 yS0 waiting for ``OK'' ** found **
03/07 18:08:08 yS0 waiting...
03/07 18:10:33 yS0 waiting for ``RING'' ** found **
03/07 18:10:33 yS0 cannot set controlling tty (ioctl): Operation not
permitted
03/07 18:10:33 yS0 send: ATA[0d]
03/07 18:10:33 yS0 waiting for ``CONNECT''
03/07 18:11:19 yS0 found action string: ``+FHNG:''
03/07 18:11:19 ##### failed A_FAIL dev=ttyS0, pid=30582, caller=none,
conn='', name=''

First problem (maybe) can be seen on line 4: "can't get group 'modem'".
Where is that coming from?
The second thing (and probably the source of my troubles) is near the
end: "cannot set controlling tty [...]". What does that mean? And... how
can I fix it?

Thanks for any hint!
